The area around Malealea is full of small huts - not the uninhabited wilderness some prefer.
We didn't mind our landscapes served with goalposts, and greeting the local people in broken Sotho was fun too.

Fording the stream was our first main challenge, and I was amazed how sure-footed the ponies were. Even getting down the valley, on a stony winding path, was quite unnerving. After a few days, I'd be doing similar slopes without a second thought.
