Title : | Palawan Tropical Forest Protection Programme PTFP |

Description : | The project will cover relevant areas in the province of Palawan and in particular those areas designated as critical watershed areas under the Environmentally Critical Area Network framework (ECAN). The project will be located in Puerto Princesa, the provincial capital.
The programme's objective is to improve land classification for both forest delimitation and most appropriate agricultural land use. Help is provided to stop illegal activites damaging the forest through a better application of environmental protection laws. The project assists in the stabilistation of agricultural communities currently practising shifting cultivation, through improvements in their living conditions and incomes. The objective of the project is also to help create a substantial public awareness in the Province of the need to protect the environment. Help is also provided to ensure the sustainable longterm management of protected areas in the centre and south of the main island of Palawan. Local institutions involved in environmental protection will be strengthend. |
Objectives : | To assist in the preservation of the forests in the province of Palawan through an area-based project emphasising a community-based sustainable and development strategy, within the framework of the Strategic Environmental Plan for Palawan (SEP) established under Republic Act 7611 of 1992, and the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) established under Republic Act 7586 of 1992. |
