Title : | Indonesia forest sector support programme (IFSSP) |
 |
Description : | This project will be completed in Sumatra and will take into account the large dimension of Indonesian forest resources and the complexity of several issues such as conservation and sustainable management. The programme has been conceived in a coherent manner which complements the existing actions. A first component Forest Inventory and Monitoring (FIMP) will integrate forest inventory including the preparation of up-to-date forest maps and the compilation of a resource data bank for forest management and policy decisions. A second component is the Integrated Forestry Radio Communications (IFRCP) to finance part of Phase II of this programme, by setting up communications systems to support forest management in the five provinces of Sumatra which were not covered in Phase I (ODA). |
Objectives : | This is a sectoral support programme, its objective is to provide support for the governmental structures and forestry systems of Indonesia, so as to reinforce their capacity to monitor the state of the forest and achieve conservation and sustainable management of the resources. |
Justification : | The sector support programme will reinforce GOI national and provincial structures and will assist GOI to develop more efficient forest management systems and practices. The programme will benefit the environment and improve sustainable management, giving local population greater participation in the use and protection of the forest. The improvement of forest management will reduce forest degradation and deforestation losses as well as increase plantation management efficiency which will improve population lifestyle and lead to a better balance between wood production and other activities. |
Execution : | Financing Memorandum signed on 3 August 1993 |
