A. Objectif de l'action envisagée :
Contribute to the sustainable development of the Amazonian Rain Forest region (including Atlantic forests) through the support for execution of Sub-programmes and projects of the Pilot Programme to Conserve the Brazilian Rain Forest - PPG7, funded by the European Union.

B. Description :
The second phase of the Technical Assistance Project consists of three main components of activities: strengthening of managerial and technical capacities of agencies in charge of executing E.C. funded sub-programmes and pojects; communication and promotion of greater participation of all relevant national and international stake holders in PPG7; and finally the development of special projects that will contribute to foster supplementary, innovative initiatives for the good implementation and development of PPG7.

C. Justification :
The preservation of biodiversity, the reduction of carbon emissions and the development of knowledge on sustainable management of rain forests represents benefits of global interest and justify the technical and financial transfers from the international community to Brazil. This project will improve the ecological impact of these transfers, through the provision of specialised technical inputs where constraints are currently impeding progress.

D. Modalités d'exécution :
Funding under this project will cover primarily the costs of the personnel needed for training operations and the purchase of supplies (i.e. equipment and publications).

E. Coût et structure de financement :
Total cost amounts to 2,6 MECU. They will be shared by the European Commission (2,3 MECU) and the Ministry of Environment (300.000 ECU).
