The intermediate report (Contractor Parc Naturel Régional Haut-Jura-responsible for technical assistance), concerning the period from September 1994 to December 1996, give a positive appraisal on the progress done and some clear instructions for the future. It indicates that the situation improved a lot during the last period (Mission of November 1996).

It could be interesting to note that the European Commission finances also a study concerning this area with the contract B7-5041/94.05/VIII: "étude préalable à l'amenagement de 4 Aires protégés et de leur zone périphérique.- Contribution à l'étude de la végétation du Parc du Mont Sangbé et de sa zone périphérique" (ENGREF-Ecole Nationale du Génie Rural des eaux et des Forêts de Montpellier). Attached a copy of TOR and study. This is scientific and should reinforce the activity on the development of the Park (2) and peripheral area (3) and the Inventory and scientific follow-up of the project (4).

Considering that other projects with environment objectives have been financed in Côte d'Ivoire (letter of the Delegation 14/11/96), the intermediary assessment of the project should equally assure that:

  • actions realised in the present project follow the objective to improve the environmental policy in the country;
  • a co-ordination between all the existent projects with the same objective.
