It follows and completes a project undertaken by the community under the financial agreement B7-5041 (B7-5041/92.12/FOR) awarded to INTERA in December 1992,
named "Topographic and Vegetation Maps, produced from high resolution synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, for 7 countries of Central Africa". Both the present project
as well as the one referenced to here above have been put together following the directives of the above entities.
Objectives:
To perform Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) surveys covering the entire islands of Sao Tome and of Principe
Activities:
- The first phase is to acquire high resolution (6 m pixel) SAR data over the islands of Sao Tome and Principe, for a total of 800 Km².
- The second phase is to perform the processing of such data, including the production of topographic mapping products, and a pre-interpretation of the imagery for
vegetation mapping at 1:50000 scale.
- The third phase consist of compiling all imagery and field data to produce vegetation maps at 1:50000 scale. This phase is expected to start one year after the pre-interpretation has been delivered.
Results expected:
- Stereoscopic Strip Imagery, Topographic and Vegetation Maps as a support for ECOFAC program;
- Digital Topographic Products and vegetation Maps for EEC Joint Research Centre.
The total area to be mapped amounts to 800.000Km², of Sao Tome and Principe Islands.
Beneficiaries:
ECOFAC Programme and EEC Joint Research Centre.
Implementation strategy:
Field work and ground truth survey .
