Title :Information and Monitoring of Indigenous Lands
Description :1. Monitoring of native indigenous lands, conservation units, and other areas of interest:
The project will build on the first phase, by continuing to monitor activities, updating and developing them. It will strengthen the integration of information from other sources (spatial and descriptive) into one system. It will establish automatic processes to support internal procedures of information distribution and access.

2. Information Access and Distribution
The project will explore various sorts of access to the Internet, such as remote terminals (TELNET), file transfer protocol (FTP), communication via electronic mail (EMail) and access systems structured to information by hypermedia means (WWW). Maps will also published of ISA's three priority areas: the Negros, Xingu and Ribeira watersheds
Objectives :Strengthen the existing capacity of Instituto Socio-Ambiental to supply timely, relevant and accurate information to decision makers, indigenous people and their supporters.
Justification :ISA is currently the only organisation able to supply information and to monitor the legal situation of indigenous lands in Brazil. It is used as a reference information source by public and private, national and international organisations.
The Ministry of Environment has developed programmes such as the G7 Pilot Programme for the Conservation of the Amazon Forest, and the Biological Diversity National Programme. These concern the implementation of conservation units, the recognition of indigenous lands, and biodiveristy conservation. These programmes heavily influence public policies. It is thus essential that the actors are supplied with up-to-date, reliable information on the indigenous lands situation.
Execution :The project will be executed through a direct contract with ISA, with monitoring by the Delegation and Brussels through visits and the reporting schedule (see contract).
Payments are in instalments, linked to the signing of the contract, and provision of interim and final reports on the technical and financial progress of the project.
