B7-6201/97-03/VIII/FOR "Promotion of agroforestry and reconstruction of the tropical forest in Southeast Togo" by C.I.F.C.D. (Belgian NGO)

Objective : Promote community-based agroforestry and reconstruction of gallery forests by controlling environmental problems such as shifting cultivation, anarchic harvesting of trees for the production of fuelwood and timber, bush fires and soil degradation.

Beneficiaries : 90 villages in the area of Kloto and neighbouring areas

Result : Improved agroforestry techniques based on village peoples' culture and traditional knowledge

Activities : Develop agroforestry nurseries at the village level by planting fertiliser trees. Organise committees to fight bush fires. Reconstruct village forests by assisted natural regeneration.

Coordination : Co-financing with AGCD
