Project Background:
A mission from the DFID visited Bolivia in May 1994 to consider with the Government of Bolivia objectives and priorities in the Renewable Natural Resources and Environment sectors with a view to identifying appropriate activities for the British technical cooperation programme. The main recommendation of the mission was that UK support in the sector should all contribute to the objectives. A further RNR development mission to clarify a number of outstanding issues and to more fully define the proposed programme, took place in November 1994. The reports from these missions are available to the team as resource documents. It is now proposed to develop pilot community activities around the Amboro National Park, and in the Pilon Lajas buffer zone. These will be supported by activities with relevant municipal and regional institutions of Santa Cruz and Beni Departments. This will build on long associations between the UK and certain agricultural organisations in the area.

Project Objectives:
1.)To finalise design of care's proposal for the Amboro conservation and development project and the integrated forestry and agro-forestry models, pilon LAJPS reserve component of Bolivia's TFAP. 2.)To provide guidance for planning five supporting projects. 3.)To develop sustainable land use management systems in the transition zones between the permanent forest estate and the settled agricultural areas with particular emphasis on the needs of the poor and the conservation of biodiversity.

Intended Outputs:
In conjunction with other team members and Bolivian counterparts: 1.)Two project memoranda in standard DFID format. 2.)Five concept notes for supporters projects. 3.)Outline TORs.
