Project Background:
Cameroon's montane forests have an exceptional degree of endemism in both animal and plant species. The mount Kupe forest has a unique combination of endemic threatened species. It protects an important watershed serving around 70,000 people, and it is an important source of food and timber for the communities in the area. The forests future and the well-being of the local villagers are beginning to be threatened by the increasing demands of a growing population and the lack of awareness of the need to manage natural resources.

Project Objectives:
The project provides protection and assistance with park conservation, includes tree planting, village nurseries, a forestry extension programme, promotion of forest product activities, improving park management, higher policing standards.m

Intended Outputs:
Training of park staff and guards and the provision of guard posts.

Formation of hunting committees, establish hunting zones and gather hunting statistics.

Hunting pressure will be reduced and standard of living of the 6 villages inside the park improved through a voluntary relocation scheme onto fertile soils outside the park boundaries.

Provide more tourist and scientific infrastructure in and around the park.

A comprehensive monitoring and evaluation programme.
