Project Objectives:
During a visit to Colombia (March 1986) a Senior Agricultural Adviser of DFID held discussions with SENA (National Training Service) with regard to providing UK technical assistance to their proposed fruit and vegetable programme. SENA, part of the Ministry of labour and Social Security, is one of the largest public organisations in Colombia and is involved in all aspects of vocational training. A project proposal was submitted in 1986 to DFID requesting help in strengthening SENA's training role. Subsequently in 1988 an NRI team of a food technologist and an economist visited Colombia to assess the SENA proposal and provide recommendations for suitable inputs to SENA for DFID consideration. Following an interim report by the NRI team Mr Barrett visited Colombia in 1989 and discussed with SENA the reports, recommendations and gained general agreement.
