Project Objectives:
The objective of the project is to identify suitable areas and boundaries for reserves in order
to strengthen Irian Jaya's protected areas, as well as establishing a training programme on
environmental awareness.
Intended Outputs:
To reduce the dependence upon nature reserve by developing alternative activities and to
develop a zoning system in the reserve by taking into account the socio-cultural and
socio-economic aspects from the local people, as well as alternative activities.
To provide understanding and to demonstrate that there is a close relation between economic
requirements of the communities around the reserve, and a well maintained reserve could be
achieved by an economic incentive development.
Act as a catalyst among relevant government agencies, private institution and communities in
order to achieve an agreement in conservation management.
To stimulate and support initiative either from government agencies, private institution,
social organisations or individuals to achieve conservation mission.
