Project Code: 150-599-022 |
Start Date: 29-Apr-87 |
End Date: Mar. 31, 1990 |
Commitment: £2,500,000 |
Status: Completed |
Type of Funding: Bilateral - TC |
Project Objectives:
The aim of this project was to improve the planning capacity of the Directorate General of
Settlement Preparation, by providing reliable maps and data concerning land quality and land
availability for new settlements. Existing land resource information was widely varied in
quality and scattered making it difficult to analyse and use by planners. For the eight regional
reviews produced, covering the whole of Indonesia, 225 new topographic base maps were
prepared at 1:250 000 scale. Three sets of maps accompanied each review: Land Systems
with an interpretation of their suitability for a wide range of defined land utilisation types
Land Use with existing forest zoning and, Land Status with proposed forest zoning and
recommended development and reforestation areas. A total of 414 land systems were mapped
using air-photography, satellite imagery and radar combined with existing field study data.
Their properties were entered into a computer geo-database. The new maps form the basis of
provincial sectoral planning, and of a supplementary study - a national Overview of the
country's natural resources which includes an atlas of 14 thematic maps at 1:2 500 000 scale.
A project extension, RePPMIT (Regional Physical Planning, Map Improvement Training) is
a round off project to teach potential Government users, by workshop training, how to use
and not to use the maps and reports.
