Project Objectives:
The objective of the identification missions were to ascertain the scope for use of British technical co-operation grant funds in furthering forestry development in Indonesia. Take account of the objectives and priorities as stated in the Forestry Development Plan and in the National Tropical Forestry Action Plan , including: sectoral planning rehabilitation of degraded lands coastal ecosystems conservation and environment-oriented activities. In undertaking the survey: discussions will be held with key GoI agencies including BAPPENAS, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of the Environment liaision with principal multilateral donors (World Bank, FAO/UNDP, ADB) and bilateral donors, and with other relevant organisations take account of the relevant DFID projects/proposals including forestry communications, remote sensing, regional physical planning, mangrove management (N.E. Sumatra) and establish contacts as necessary. The economist will provide an outline of the existing structure of ownership of land, forestry, timber processing resources a brief description of the timber utilisation industry, trade in timber, pricing and marketing issues and a review of the structure for Government regulation and control, and its effectiveness.
