Project Objectives:
To assist the Forestry Research Institute of Malawi implement an expanded research programme in silviculture , agroforestry, watershed management, forest operations, fuelwood utilisation and pest and disease control.

Intended Outputs:
Adaptive research programme being undertaken Fourteen trained members of staff Socio-economic surveys completed by 1994 Establishment of at least two pilot community managed indigenous woodlands in each major ecological zone by 1994/95 Appropriate interventions identified for management of woodlands by rural communities by 1994/95 Identification of the basic physical properties of the major commercial softwood and indigenous species by 1995/96 Improved seed collection and distribution systems operating by 1994.
