Project Background:
The book consists of 12 chapters, each of approximately 100-150 pages in length, double line
spacing, illustrated with figures, graphs, boxes, tables and black and white photographs.
It is predominantly a work of synthesis, with heavy emphasis on bibliographic research, and
complementary material provided by researchers in the form of unpublished papers, degree
theses and personal communications, together with field observations.
The book has been adopted as a specially commissioned project ("Proyecto de Encargo
E019) by Mexico's National Commission for the knowledge and use of Biodiversity
(CONABIO), which is providing the bulk of the publication costs. The book is to be
published, in the first instance, in Spanish (for obvious reasons).
Project Objectives:
To produce a much needed basic text on ecology, land use and nature conservation in
Mexico.
Intended Outputs:
A book entitled "The Utilisation and Conservation of Mexico's Terrestrial Ecosystems: Past,
Present and Future".
