Project Objectives:
The wider objective of the project is to safeguard and improve the living standards and environment of local people, especially the poor in forest margins, dependent for their livelihoods on the renewable natural resources of the project area. The immediate objective is to assess the validity of the proposals submitted in concept notes and the document A conservation strategy for the highland forests of Northern Chiapas, Mexico.

Intended Outputs:
A report that assesses the validity ofthe submitted proposals. The report will suggest and fully justifythe inputs that could be most usefully provided by DFID to helpachieve project objectives if sufficient justification exists. Aprepared project memorandum for consideration by LACAD.
