Project Background:
Since becoming an agricultural research, training and extension station in 1975, the UK has spent about œ6.75 million (1989 prices) on the station. This includes expenditure on overseas training, TCO's, and an estimate of UK - purchased equipment. The benefits of LAC activity are being realized. LAC generated technology has increased overall food self-sufficiency in the ECA by 12 to 18 percent. The Farming Systems Research (FSR) villages have been transformed from subsistance to cash economies. Other HMGN/donor projects use Lumle varieties. Lumle scientists influence the planning and implementation of national research.

Project Objectives:
1.)Improved standard of living of hill farmers by developing sustainable technologies. 2.)Conservation of natural resources. 3.)Strengthening HMCN national research efforts by integration of LAC.
