The objective of the project is: To undertake agricultural and forestry development projects to improve and increase outputs for small scale farmers in St Helena. The water project Willowbank Dam involves construction of 27,000 cubic metres of extra storage in order to provide adequate water for irrigation of 10 ha in dry years. The project aims to complete the potential for water storage on the Hutta Gate System via construction of an earth dam . The rain water tanks project aims to reduce the use of expensively treated water and increase the use of rain water in domestic gardens. The water meter project aims to decrease domestic consumption, thereby releasing more water for agriculture production and enable a more rational water charging policy to be instituted. The treated water project aims to reduce the health risk of 420 households in the Levelwood area by upgrading their water supply into a treated supply. The mapping project aims to produce better maps and land use photographs. The forestry project aims to manage clearance of land and plant both exotics and endemics in line with prevailing weather conditions to expand the storage area and new water tank. A crop storage specialist (NRI, April 1990) to review existing vegetable storage facilities on St Helena in terms of their adequacy for maintaining quality and their ability to store the volumes required.
