Project Objectives:
The objectives of the project were: To closely define possible areas of DFID assistance in
expanding export industry for horticultural crops To evaluate CISIR management capacity
and available staff expertise relevant to postharvest horticulture and determine the nature and
likely focus of the benefits to CISIR deriving from the DFID assistance To evaluate the
current expertise available in other organisations and/or their needs/wishes to develop
expertise in postharvest technology of horticultural crops and determine their inputs to this
project To assess the views of concerned Government of Sri Lanka Ministries To discuss
with USAID agents such as MARD, DARP, etc who are involved in work in this area so
efforts of donor agencies are not duplicated To establish the most likely beneficiaries of the
Project (growers, exporters and institutes) To develop a proposal to help strengthen institutes
appropriately so that they may service both the growers and the exporters To discuss findings
and draft recommendations with the British Council Colombo prior to departure and To
submit outline proposal on which the Project Memorandum may be based, within one month
of the end of this consultancy.
Intended Outputs:
Preparation and presentation of a report on which a project memorandum may be based.
