Project Background:
The project identification consisted of a three man mission visited Tanzania (1989) with the
overall objective of the mission was to define a strategy for future assistance to the forestry
sector and to identify possible projects for support by the British Government through DFID.
The major tasks of the team can be summarised as: -To discuss the findings and
recommendations of the Tropical Forestry Action Plan (TFAP) with the Forestry and Bee
Keeping Division (FBD) to discuss with multi-lateral and other bi-lateral donors their present
and propsed future involvement in forestry in Tanzania. Based on the above identify suitable
projects for DFID support to forestry under the umbrella of the TFAP.
Project Objectives:
The objective of the project is to strengthen DFID's bilateral programme in tropical forest
conservation and forestry for rural development through coordinated international action
within TFAP.
Intended Outputs:
Identify promising areas for DFID support to forestry in Tanzania under the umbrella of the
TFAP.
