Project Background

The project aims to improve the livelihoods and well-being of the resource poor farmers. To minimise risks of crop failure increasing sustainable production and increasing the output of products and service functions per unit area of the land.

Project Objectives

Knowledge of tree-crop interactions in the below and above ground environment improved and incorporated into management strategies.

Intended Outputs

  • Cooperation between agroforestry modellers and those involved with agroforestry practices in DFID bilateral, FRP and JFS projects, and in ICRAF, GCTE, IITA and TSBF promoted.
  • Information obtained from field experiments integrated using models of tree-crop interactions that will define optimal agroforestry practices in different regions.
  • The final working model validated and disseminated in conjunction with ICRAF and IITTA.
