Project Background

The Durini Group is one of the oldest and largest timber industries in Ecuador. It is an association of companies, each with several shareholders including members of the Durini family. Its total annual timber consumption is close to 110,000 cu m of logs, of which 26,000 cu m come from plantations.

The Durini Group started its first plantations in 1978. In 1980, the JM Durini Forestry Corporation was founded, to handle all plantation establishment, research and management on behalf of members of the Durini group and other collaborators. In 1990, this became the JM Durini Forestry Foundation (FFJMD), with its NGO status and environmental and social concerns more clearly stated.
