A. Objectif de l'action envisagée : Conservation of Amazon rain forest through measures to protect national parks, reserves and protected areas together with actions in strategic non-protected areas, so as to establish "ecological corridors". The corridors will enable gene flow and provide extended habitats for wildlife.
B. Description : Contribution is envisaged to a large programme of the order of 50 M Euro, to be co-financed by Rain Forest Trust Fund (administered by World Bank) and Germany. Two corridors are proposed - one in the Atlantic forest and one in the Central Amazon (Amazonas state).
C. Justification : This is the last remaining component of the Brazil Pilot Programme which is not yet funded. The project seeks to ensure the conservation of protected areas of global importance for biodiversity and climate stability. The proposal has the full support of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment
D. Modalités d'exécution : To be determined but probably through a Trust Fund agreement with the World Bank Rain Forest Unit in Brasilia.
