A. Objectif de l'action envisagée : Definition and implementation of a management plan for the Chiribiquete National Park (CNP) and consolidation of a research and training programme in the region.
B. Description : SO.1 Identification of the abiotic and the biological features of the CNP SO 2 Evaluation of the CNP's biodiversity and implementation of a biodiversity monitoring system. SO 3 Analysis of the seasonal dynamics of the different forest types in a restricted perimeter. SO 4 Evaluation of the relations of the surrounding Indian tribes with the area and of former Carijona territorial management. SO 5 Evaluation of colonisation activities on the northern border of the CNP and definition of impact mitigation mechanisms. SO 6 Development of a research/training program in the region.
C. Justification : This project will be developed within the framework of an agreement established between FPR and UAESPNN and fits full square with national environmental priorities. Puerto Rastrojo Foundation has been actively involved in the creation of National Parks since 1985, as well as in the creation of Indian Resguardos in over 200.000 hectares of the Amazon. Recently the Foundation was awarded the Ordén of Manabí by Parques Nacionales in recognition of its efforts for the sustainable management of parks in Colombia. FPR is currently developing mechanisms for the permanent evaluation, monitoring and up-dating of information for the National Parks system. This project involves the active participation of National Park representatives and UAESPNN.
D. Modalités d'exécution : The project's Coordinating Committee will be structured according to the Project's Organisation Chart . The EU Delegation will be invited to participate in the Coordinating Committee meetings which will take place on a 6 monthly basis. Minutes from the meetings will be sent to the EU Delegation as well as to the EU project officer in Brussels and other committee participants. Additional committee meetings will be organised if necessary.
In addition a Technical Committee will meet every three months with the following responsibilities; elaboration of a yearly plan and calendar of activities to be approved by the Coordinating Committee; evaluation and presentation for approval of the Coordinating Committee of research plans and projects as well as trimestral reports on the execution and progress of activities carried out within the framework of the agreement.
